Hi, I’m hava
In my work with clients and in my own therapy, I have found that discovering and addressing the root of a struggle is often more effective than treating the symptoms. In individual counseling, this usually involves processing past negative expriences and potential trauma, as well as making lifestyle changes to increase meaning and connection. In couples counseling, this means helping you and your partner not only learn how to address conflict, but also rebuild the friendship and positive attributes that form the foundation of your relationship.
EMDR
Eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR) uses bilateral stimulation such as eye movements and tapping to reduce a person’s reactivity to past trauma or negative experiences. It can reduce symptoms of trauma such as flashbacks, nightmares, and insomnia, and can also reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.
I use several modalities in my work. I chose to pursue training in these methods because they are based on extensive research, and because I have personally found them helpful.
My Approach
parts work
Parts work refers to addressing the different parts of oneself — for instance, you may have one part that wants to lead a healthy lifestyle, and another that uses binge eating as a coping mechanism. I use techniques from IFS and Gestalt therapy to better understand these parts and where they’re coming from, and find healthier ways to accomplish their goals.
Solutions-focused
Solutions-Focused Therapy focuses on a client’s strengths and what works well for them to help you achieve goals. I use techniques from this approach to help clients make lifestyle changes that can support them in their deeper work. These strategies can also help clients cope with the strong emotions that arise when delving into past trauma.
Gottman method
The Gottmans have spent decades researching relationships to learn more about how they operate, what makes a relationship strong, and what interventions improve relationships. This method helps with communication and conflict resolution as well as restoring friendship and shared meaning in relationships.
